Aylesbury’s mosque is the latest community hub to install life-saving equipment.
The mosque now has a defibrillator mounted on to the outside of the building that can be accessed by anyone in the community to use if someone’s having a cardiac arrest. Aylesbury mosque thinks it is perhaps only the second mosque in the UK to do so.
Local communities are becoming more aware of the need for defibrillators and there are several schemes across Buckinghamshire, with several having been installed, for example, around Princes Risborough.
External defibrillators are kept within a secure cabinet so that in an emergency, the person on the scene can call 999 and is then given a code to open the storage box. An operator then guides the user through using the kit to try and save the patient, while an ambulance is on its way.
“This is why it is so important to register with your local NHS Ambulance service, so that they have an up-to-date record of where all defibrillators are located”, says Ian Pearce, Director of WEL Medical.
