Father’s Day is often about socks, golf tees, or a pub lunch, but what if this year’s gift could save a life? CPR training isn’t just a skill; it’s a powerful act of love.
This Father’s Day, we’re shining a spotlight on CPR awareness and the lifesaving power of quick action and why every family should consider CPR training as a meaningful, lasting gift.
Why CPR Training Matters for Men
On average, men experience cardiac arrest risks 10 years earlier than most women.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) explains that in the UK, coronary heart disease kills more than twice as many men under the age of 75 as women of the same age group. Over 4 million men in the UK have a circulatory or heart disease, and one million men have survived a heart attack. Prompt CPR and access to a defibrillator can double and even triple survival chances, but fewer than 1 in 10 will survive.
Many cardiac arrests take place in the home, where family members are the first to respond. That’s why preparing fathers, sons, families, and communities with CPR awareness can be one of the most valuable investments in family safety.
Common Symptoms of Heart Issues In Men
There are various lifestyle choices and symptoms men should consider when checking heart health:
- High levels of visceral fat: linked to increased inflammation, insulin resistance, and higher levels of cholesterol
- High blood pressure levels: often leads to stroke, heart failure, or heart disease
- Habits which can lead to heart disease: frequent alcohol intake or smoking, prolonged stress or anger, lack of exercise, poor nutritional consumption and dietary choices, and lack of sleep
- Other health concerns like: erectile dysfunction, diabetes, Low Testosterone
To check for symptoms of heart disease, men should be conscious of:
- Discomfort or pain in chest area
- Short or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue or general weakness
- Palpitations or an irregular heartbeat
- Unusual swelling of legs or ankles
- Neck pain, shoulders, arms, or shoulders

Tom Fane – Rescued by 18-Year-Old Freddie
On May 9th, 55-year-old Tom Fane collapsed suddenly at home. His son Freddie didn’t hesitate. While Tom’s wife Amanda called 999, Freddie sprinted to the local football club to retrieve a public-access defibrillator, returning in time to deliver a lifesaving shock.
Thanks to their CPR awareness, Freddie and Amanda performed CPR until paramedics arrived and Tom lived to tell the tale.
Tom’s story is a testament to the power of community defibrillators and the importance of CPR knowledge at home. With fast action and the right tools, lives can be saved.
